How are spaces, line breaks, and emoji counted?
Each visible character counts as one, whether it is full-width or half-width. Each of あ, A, 😊, and the combined family emoji 👨👩👧👦 counts as one character. The main count includes spaces and line breaks. The second count excludes half-width and full-width spaces, tabs, and line breaks. If a submission has its own counting rules, check those requirements.
Can I also check word and byte counts?
Open More counts to see lines, paragraphs, English words, and UTF-8 bytes. The English word count counts groups of Latin letters. Bytes measure data size: A uses 1 byte and あ uses 3 bytes in UTF-8.
Is my text saved?
Counting runs in your browser without sending the text to a server for processing. Your text is not automatically saved and is cleared when you reload or leave the page. After Clear all, you can use Undo until you enter new text.
